I just got back from spending an inspiring month in the South of France. Ahhhh, the French, they love to eat bread, drink good wine and chain smoke cigarettes. All the things I wish I could do, however, I risk being exiled from Santa Monica. The first time I went to France, I was not expecting to like it, but like a cliché, France sucked me in and I went back for more. The history, the writers, the ornate architecture, the fashion, the food, the language, the cafes, the FU attitude, right up my street.... Read more of my design inspiration...

All of the lights.
"Experience is a dim lamp which only lights the one who bears it." - Louis Fernidad Celine
This pic is of a wall sconce in the kitchen in the rental home we stayed in, so modern, cool, simple, and the wall plaster...I CAN'T EVEN. I loved waking up to this every morning at 4 am (jet lag) and making strong ass coffee and of course eating a croissant, or two, don't judge.
South of France Travel Musts - Rent a small car, streets are tiny, stay near the coast, cities inland are amazing to visit but very sleepy. Visit Vieux Nice, Tourrettes Sur Loup, Eze, Gourdon, St Paul de Vence. Rent a cabana on Nice beach for $30 to people watch.
Floored.
"Judge a man by his questions rather than his answers." - Voltaire
All of these floor pics were taken following 3 hour lunches with friends & family, passionate discussion, and copious amounts of rosé. All after exploring countless gorgeous medieval villages in the Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur - MAJOR INSPO, MAJOR.
More South of France Travel musts- Monaco, Polpetta Restaurant, Antibes, Cannes Miramar, Hotel Du Cap, Wine Tasting in Chateauneuf du Pape, Aix En Provence.
Homage.
“Petit a petit, l’oiseau fait son nid” translated as, “Little by little, the bird makes its nest.” This French proverb exudes patience and perseverance, qualities I am working on mastering.
I've never been a fan of antiques. Weird, I know, for someone who is into design. Sorry, but they're old, they smell, they require maintenance... Well, after this trip, I can say, they are growing on me. I have a new appreciation for a 200 year old stinky chair. This is a pic of a client's French chair I modernized (before on the left, after on the right). Still has the Provincial bones... I stained it back to a walnut finish to keep some of the "old" look, and added a Kelly Wearstler fabric to modernize it.
